LOS ANGELES, April 17 (Xinhua) -- Chinese action comedy film "Panda Plan: The Magical Tribe" opened Friday in a limited theatrical release across North America.
Distributed by Well Go USA Entertainment, the sequel to the 2024 film "Panda Plan" is screening in Mandarin with English and Chinese subtitles at around 30 theaters in major North American cities, including Los Angeles, San Francisco, Chicago, New York, Dallas, Toronto and Vancouver.
Directed by Derek Hui, the fantasy adventure follows Panda Hu Hu and actor Jackie Chan as they stumble upon a hidden primitive tribe. As rival warriors and mystical leaders close in, Chan's character must protect Hu Hu while unraveling the secrets of the mysterious land.
According to Maoyan, a Chinese movie-ticketing and film data platform, the film has grossed more than 287 million yuan (about 42.1 million U.S. dollars) since its release in the Chinese mainland on Feb. 17, during the Chinese New Year holiday period.
The film currently holds a rating of 9.2 out of 10 on Maoyan, based on reviews from more than 38,000 viewers.
