WELLINGTON, March 26 (Xinhua) -- New Zealand and Tuvalu share a close friendship and a joint commitment to regional resilience and prosperity, New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon said Thursday.

While meeting with Tuvalu Prime Minister Feleti Teo in Auckland during his first official visit to New Zealand, Luxon said New Zealand has long supported Tuvalu's development priorities and expressed pleasure at renewing the countries' Statement of Partnership that underpins the ongoing cooperation.

"Tuvalu is leading the way in the region and globally in responding to sea-level rise," Luxon said, adding that New Zealand will provide additional support to coastal resilience through the Tuvalu Coastal Adaptation Project.

The leaders also discussed climate and economic priorities, social and governance issues and Pacific regionalism.
