Mentally ill man detained for damaging terracotta warriors

XI'AN, May 31 (Xinhua) -- Police in Xi'an, capital of northwest China's Shaanxi Province, said on Saturday that a man has been detained for damaging two Class-II protected artifacts.

The 30-year-old man, surnamed Sun, breached the barriers and protective fencing of the excavation pit at the Terracotta Warriors Museum, entering Pit No. 3 at around 5:30 p.m. Friday, according to a notice released by the Lintong branch of the Xi'an public security bureau.

Sun damaged two armored warrior statues in pushing and pulling, the notice said, adding that he has been found to suffer from mental illness.
