WELLINGTON, May 23 (Xinhua) -- New Zealand's retail sector recorded a modest lift in activity for the first quarter of 2025, with sales volumes rising 0.8 percent from the fourth quarter of 2024, according to the statistics department Stats NZ on Friday.

"Motor vehicle retailing, and pharmaceutical and other store-based retailing saw the largest increases this quarter," said Michelle Feyen, Stats NZ economic indicators spokesperson.

Ten out of 15 retail industries reported increased volumes, reflecting steady consumer activity across sectors, Feyen said.

Retail values also rose across all 16 regions, with the West Coast and Nelson recording the strongest regional growth, she said.
