The United States women's soccer team advanced to the knockout stage of the Tokyo Olympics with a scoreless draw against Australia in Tuesday's final Group G match in Kashima, Japan.

Team USA forward Alex Morgan headed a corner kick into the net in the 33rd minute, but the goal was disallowed after a VAR review determined that her elbow was offside.

Following a stunning 3-0 loss to Sweden in their opening match, the Americans rebounded with a 6-1 defeat of New Zealand and a tie with Australia. Unbeaten Sweden finished first in Group G, followed by the Americans in second place.

The U.S. will face the Netherlands, winners of Group F, in Friday's quarterfinal in Yokohama at 7 a.m. ET.

Megan Rapinoe and Rose Lavelle received yellow cards against Australia. Another caution for either in the quarterfinal match would mean a one-game suspension for the semifinals, should the U.S. squad advance.
