The admitting to New Zealand's Stuff website that the Tu Kotahi Aotearoa trophy had been damaged.
"The Super Rugby Aotearoa trophy was designed to be passed around. Following the match on Sunday, the trophy has accidentally been dropped and incurred some minor damage. We have notified New Zealand Rugby, and sought cultural advice. Repairs will be made as soon as possible," Mansbridge said.
The trophy was carved out of Totara wood and its name translates to Stand as one, New Zealand. It is believed that the pounamu mere on top of the base of the trophy had been broken off.
The Crusaders sealed the title on the penultimate weekend with a 32-22 home win over the Highlanders on Sunday.
They have won six of seven games and will conclude their campaign with a sold-out clash against the Blues in Auckland on Sunday (05:35 SA time).
