Injured Bok skipper Kolisi back training with WP

23 Jul 2019, 22:13 GMT+10

Cape Town - Springbok skipper Siya Kolisi is back on the training field with Western Province as he continues his recovery from a knee injury.

There is the slightest possibility that he will feature in Saturday's Currie Cup clash against the Golden Lions at Newlands, but it is difficult to see that happening given that the Rugby World Cup in September is the obvious priority.

Kolisi picked up his injury towards the end of Super Rugby this year, which effectively ruled him out of the shortened Rugby Championship.

He served as water assistant in Saturday's 35-17 win over the Wallabies in Johannesburg, but he has not made the trip to Wellington for this weekend's clash against the All Blacks.

Instead, he was at WP's Bellville training base on Monday.

"The great thing about Siya is that he will always offer something," WP assistant coach Dawie Snyman was quoted as saying by Netwerk24.

"It will be a bonus if he can play and we can give him the opportunity to get back to fitness for the Boks."

Centre Dan Kriel, meanwhile, added that Kolisi's presence was having a positive impact on the WP squad.

"It's really good to have Siya with us," he said.

"He is in a good mood and it's great that he can be here with us."

WP's clash against the Lions kicks off at 17:15 while the Boks' clash against the All Blacks gets underway at 09:35 (SA time).
