Buying support pushes Wall Street towards record highs

<p>NEW YORK, New York - U.S. stocks closed sharply higher on Friday, while the dollar fell.</p><p>The Dow Jones industrials continued on their road to a record high, consolidating above the 26,000 level. The key index on Friday finished 269.25 points or 1.03% ahead at 26,412.30.</p><p>The Standard and Poor&#39;s 500 added 19.09 points or 0.66% tp 2,907.41.</p><p>The tech-laden Nasdaq Composite gained 36.90 points or 0.46% to 7,984.16.</p><p>The euro rose to 1.1305 by the New York close on Friday.</p><p>Sterling strengthened to 1.3080. The Swiss franc rose to 1.0024.</p><p>The Canadian dollar firmed to 1.332, while the Australian and New Zealand dollars rose to 0.7171 and 0.6763 respectively.</p><p>The Japanese yen went against the trend, sliding to 112.00.</p>
