Bush offers unconditional support for Musharraf

U.S President George Bush has offered his strongest support to President Musharraf of Pakistan.

President Bush has called him a defiant but 'indispensable' key ally.

In an interview with ABC News, Mr Bush said General Musharraf was 'truly somebody who believes in democracy'.

The interview was a contrast to Washington's previous stance, when Mr Bush, only two weeks ago, said his aides had bluntly warned Musharraf that his emergency measures 'would undermine democracy'.

Asked if there was a line Musharraf should not cross, Bush said, 'He hasn't crossed the line. As a matter of fact, I don't think that he will cross any lines.'

'We didn't necessarily agree with his decision to impose emergency rule, and ... hopefully he'll get ... rid of the rule. Today, I thought, was a pretty good signal, that he released thousands of people from jail,' he said.

Disputing the suggestion that he has put too much faith in Musharraf, who seized power in a 1999 coup, Bush said, 'He's been a loyal ally in fighting terrorists. He's also advanced democracy in Pakistan.'

'He has said he's going to take off his uniform. He's said there will be elections. Today he released prisoners, and so far I've found him to be a man of his word,' the president added.

Antiterrorist? Democracy is antiterrorist!? How could you put a system that hides behind nuclear control of the masses and antiterrorism together? Nuclear weapons arn’t terror supression, nuclear weapons are terrorism and every nation should have them to protect themselves from Israel!

Bush, Congress at loggerheads over Pakistan aid...
:o
US restricts $50 mn military aid to Pakistan
21 Dec 2007, WASHINGTON: Congress has slapped restrictions on US military aid to Pakistan, creating a rift with the George Bush administration on how aggressively to pursue democratic reform there, congressional observers said.

]
The new restrictions, part of the 1,400-page “omnibus” spending bill approved by Congress this week, put limits on $300 million of US military aid received each year by Pakistan, a key US ally in the “war on terror." In the past, Pakistan enjoyed free rein to use the funds, but under the catch-all budget bill passed by Congress late Monday, $250 million of those funds now are to be used strictly for counter-terrorism operations.

Lawmakers stipulated that the remaining $50 million are to be withheld until the Bush administration demonstrates that Pakistan is making clear moves toward democracy. Congress is calling on Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice to formally certify that Islamabad is actively working to restore democratic rights.

Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf earlier this month resigned as head of the army and lifted Emergency rule, but Congress said it is seeking more concrete measures, including the restoration of an independent judiciary. The White House has also pressed Musharraf to do more to ensure that elections set for January 8 are free and fair, notably by allowing access to free media.

Good luck

Democracy which suits Military, it is repeated. In 1973, there was also democracy. A true democracy for the people by the people and to the people.

Now, we understand. Musharaf must get money to send his Talibans(SSG Commando) to Afghanistan to kill Afghans. Pakistani military shall get money
to kill his own people. Killings and killings. What a globalization? It seems that
in the end Musharaf shall be encourged to detonate nuclear arms to kill
millions. Good luck.
